Joe is always searching for intriguing small lots for his private label wine

Joe is always searching for an opportunity to be creative as a winemaker.

J. Wright, Vintner focuses on intriguing small lots and showcases the differences in Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays based solely on soil, micro-climate and elevation i.e. terroir. Joe creates his wine with a vineyard focus - rather than a winery inputs - mentality.

J. Wright, Vintner Pinot Noirs feature bright, copious fruit and balanced oak influence while the Chardonnay and White Pinot Noir have subtle oak influence with bright fruit expressions.

SMALL BATCH CREATIVITY

J. Wright, Vintner works closely with the vineyard crew, other winemakers and vineyards across Oregon.

The Willamette Valley is a strong winemaking region because of decades of strongly forged relationships. In the early days, vineyards shared information to figure out how best to grow grapes in this region. That spirit of partnership is at the root of our continued success.

We talk wine, soil, grapes and adventures while relaxing at backyard BBQs and summer celebrations, sharing glasses of wine and beautiful regional food. Oregon’s tightly knit wine community makes our wines the beautiful creations that they are.

OUR STRONG WINE COMMUNITY

LEFT COAST ESTATE

Van Duzer AVA

The Left Coast Estate sits on Jurassic era marine sedimentary soils. This shallow soil is composed of fractured siltstone, which contains seashells and fossils that show evidence of its oceanic past.

Left Coast is within the newly created Van Duzer Corridor AVA which is known for its high wind flow coming off the Pacific Ocean and large diurnal temperature shifts between day and night. The resulting wines maintain a lively acidity with complex structure, earthly aromatics and a gentle note of minerality.

Left Coast Estate is our winemaking home. J. Wright, Vintner wines are produced at Left Coast Estate, and always available in the Tasting Room.

LE CADEAU BLACK HOLE VINEYARD

Chehalem Mountains AVA

Located in the Chehalem Mountains AVA at 700-foot elevation, Black Hole Vineyard is planted to Dijon clone 777 and Pommard. The sloped Witzel soil plantings offer notes of baked plum, pencil lead, forest floor and mushroom.

Black Hole gets its name from being a large project initially, a challenging vineyard to maintain. That hard work paid off: the site now produces beautiful fruit.

Back in 1977, when Deb and Tom Mortimer first discovered the uncultivated land that would become the Le Cadeau Black Hole Vineyard, they knew instantly that it was an excellent site to grow Pinot Noir.

PAGE VINEAYRD

Eola-Amity Hills AVA

Pinot Noir’s magic lies in its ability to communicate a sense of the place where it was grown. You can taste the diversity in wines, which largely draw there differences from where the grapes are grown.

Eola Amity AVA describes the origin of the Willamette Valley began as an ocean floor trapped between two emerging mountain ranges.

Rivers of lava erupting from volcanoes on the east side of the Cascades flowed down the Columbia Gorge towards the sea, covering the layers of marine sediment on the emerging Willamette Valley’s floor with layers of basalt.
